Chesterfield Cemetery
A walk through the Chesterfield Cemetery is a walk through Centreville's and Queen Anne's County history.
Established in 1846, the Cemetery at that time became the official town burial ground. Prior to this, burials were either on estates, family burial plots, in church burial sites, or on grounds of the Alms House (the poor house). There was a separate burial site for the black community. Over the years, various additional areas were sold to the town for reduced prices in order to expand the size of the cemetery to what it is today. Throughout the years, many of the leaders of the Town, County, and even the Eastern Shore were laid to rest here in what has now become one of the most beautiful garden spots of Centreville. Today the cemetery is open to all people of the town, and even of the County.
The Cemetery Advisory Committee is an ad hoc committee that advises the Town through the Town Manager and usually meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. at the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway.
