Town FY 2010 Budget Approved

June 18, 2009.  The Town Council approved Ordinance 02-2009 enacting the FY 2010 Budget at its 7PM meeting on June 18, 2009.  Copies of the Proposed Budget are available at Town Hall.

Board and Commission Appointments

May 28, 2009.  Centreville, MD.  Several town residents took the oath or office last night for service on Boards or Commissions of the Town of Centreville.  Kara Snyder was sworn in for a five year term on the Centreville Planning and Zoning Commission.  Bob Elliot, Sandy Simpson, and Sarah Berlin took the Oath of Office for membership on the Centreville Park Advisory Board.   In addition, Donald Braden was reappointed last week to another term on the Board of Appeals, and Mike Olson was appointed to the Citizens Review Board.  Congratulations to those new and returning appointees, and thank you to all who expressed interest in serving the Town in these important roles.

Council Reorganizational Meeting

April 16, 2009.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council accepted the report of the Board of Supervisors of Elections.  Timothy E. McCluskey was seated for a three year term as a Council Member.  Mary L. Roby was thanked for her three years of service on the Town Council.  Frank C. Ogens was elected President of the Town Council.  Norman P. Pinder, Jr. was elected Vice President of the Town Council.

President Ogens then appointed Council Member McCluskey as liaison to the Planning Commission, and himself as liaison to the Park Advisory Board.  Vice President Pinder will continue as the Town's representative to the County Council of Governments.  The Town Council also reappointed Steve Kehoe (Town Attorney) and Lori Peddicord (Finance Officer) for the coming year.

April, 2009.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council of Centreville is accepting applications or expressions of interest for service to fill current vacancies on the Planning Commission, the Park Advisory Board, and the Citizens Review Board.  There are also vacancies due to the expiration of terms.  For a complete list click on "Who's Who" then "Boards and Commissions" above.  For information on how to apply to be considered for appointment by the Town Council, please email or call Town Hall.

ELECTION RESULTS

April 6, 2009.  Timothy E. McCluskey was elected to the Town Council today, pending certification of election results. A total of 572 votes were cast at the polls. Of those, 331 went to Mr. McCluskey, and 236 went to Ms. Roby. Two ballots were determined to be "non-votes" (meaning election judges were not able to determine for whom the votes were cast), and there were three "phantom" votes (meaning the ballots disappeared before counting.)

The Board of Supervisors of Elections will meet at 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday, April 8, 2009, at Town Hall, to count 10 provisional ballots, 43 absentee ballots, and 4 emergency absentee ballots, as well as to certify the election results.

The Council will then hold its reorganizational meeting at 8:00 p.m., on Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway, in the first floor meeting room. The public is welcome and invited to attend. 

Municipal Election April 6, 2009

March 2009. The Board of Supervisors of Elections encourages all registered voters living within the coporate limits of Centreville to vote in the municipal election on April 6, 2009. The designated polling place is the First Floor Meeting Room at the Goodwill Volunteer Fire Company, 212 Broadway. Polls are open from Noon to 7:00 p.m. Timothy E. McCluskey and Mary L. Roby have filed for  one council member seat.

The Board of Supervisors of Elections also reminds voters of the opportunity to vote by absentee ballot if unable for any reason to make it to the polling place on election day.

The following persons are entitled to vote by absentee ballot: Any qualified voter who may be absent on election day for any reason from the Town of Centreville where the voter is registered. In addition, the following persons are entitled to vote by emergency absentee ballot: 1) Any qualified voter who is unable to be present at the polls as a result of illness or accident occuring after the time for applying for an absentee ballot has passed. 2) Any qualified voter who is unable to be present at the polls because of the death or serious illness in the person's immediate family, about which the person becomes aware after the time for applying for an absentee ballot has passed.

The Board of Supervisors of Elections shall furnish an absentee ballot to any qualified voter upon written or verbal request. This request shall be received no later than the Monday prior to the election (March 30, 2009), unless it is an emergency application. Absentee Ballot information is available at the customer service counter at Town Hall, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Property Disposal Notification

February 9, 2009.  Centreville, MD.  The Town of Centreville hereby gives notice of its intent to dispose of public property:

The Town Council has declared the rails, spikes, ties, and associated items, and the old freight building on the former Pennsylvania Avenue Railroad property as surplus.  The Town Council intends to donate these items to Queen Anne’s County for use at Bloomfield Park.

Snow Event

March 1-2, 2009.  Centreville, MD.  The Town of Centreville and much of the northeastern US has been blanketed with snow.  Public Works crews deployed Sunday evening and have been working through the night.  Despite these on-going efforts, the volume of snowfall and ambient conditions continue to cause mixed conditions on the roadways.  State Highways and County roads around the Town remain challenging as well.  Curbside trash pickup is under way, but behind schedule due to the weather.  If at all possible, stay home and enjoy the snow!
