Draft Community Plan Online

December 12, 2007.  The Planning Commissions of the Town of Centreville and Queen Anne's County jointly adopted a resolution to recommend adoption of the Draft Centreville Community Plan by the Town Council of Centreville and the Board of Commissioners of Queen Anne's County.  The Plan was amended based on feedback from the public and local and state governments during the review process, which included a Joint Hearing on September 26, 2007.  The Centreville Community Plan was last updated in 1998.  Click here for an on line verison of the original review draft.  The currently approved draft will be available once the approved changes are added.  The Community Plan, a critical and comprehensive planning document, provides guidance for the town's growth and development for the future.

Town Holiday Events: Parade

December 7, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  Come join the fun!  The Town of Centreville Parade, featuring more than 70 entries, will be departing Queen Anne's County High School shortly after 6:00 PM on Friday, December 7, 2007 and proceeded through Town via Kidwell Avenue, up Commerce Street past the reviewing stand on the Courthouse Square and then to Broadway and Chesterfield.  Entrants should be at the High School by 5PM. 

Rt. 213 Electric Power Outage for Upgrade

December 5, 2006.  Delmarva Power has notified the Town that there will be "an electrical outage for upgrade of voltage on Rt 213 (Commerce St) between 4-H Park Road and Little Kidwell that will effect the Town of Centreville...between hours of 3:00 am and 7:00 am on 12/5/07".  Please plan accordingly.

August, 2007.  The revision of the Centreville Community Plan, last updated in 1998, is nearing completion.  The current draft of the Plan, which has been approved for review by the Town of Centreville and Queen Anne's County Planning Commissions, is now available online.  Please review the plan and submit your comments in advance of the joint hearing of the two Planning Commissions, scheduled for 6PM on September 26, 2007 at the Planning and Zoning Office, 160 Courseval Drive.  The Community Plan, a critical and comprehensive planning document, will provide guidance for the town's growth and development for the future, subject to the approval of the Town Council.

Helicopter Spraying for Phragmites

October 3, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, working with Queen Anne's County staff, began the implementation of the Town of Centreville's Phragmites control program.  This program involves land-based spray application and airborne spray application to remove Phragmites growth along the Mill Stream and Corsica River.  Helicopter-based spray application took place October 4, 2007. 

Corsica River Watershed Awareness Day - Second Annual

September 15, 2007.  Come join the fun for the Second Annual Corsica Watershed Awareness Day.  This free event will be held on September 15th from noon to four PM at Bloomfield Farm. The family event includes tours of the farm and house, kid's activities, hay rides, food, many exhibits, a free tree give-a-way to the first 100 families, a raffle for wooden rain barrels, lively entertainment, and much more. The Town of Centreville is a co-sponsor of this event with the Corsica River Conservancy and the Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Department. Bloomfield Farm, in Centreville, Maryland, is north on Rt. 213 between North Brook and White Marsh Road. Bloomfield Farm is now owned by Queen Anne’s County:  parts of the property are being farmed; some wetlands have been restored; hundreds of trees have been planted; and community sports fields are planned. The large brick house dates back to the early 19th century with much of the original woodwork still in place.

Hydrant Flushing in North Brook and Centreville Heights

July 3, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Town of Centreville is flushing the water system on July 3, 2007 and weekly thereafter in the affected areas to address reports of discoloration.  Affected users noticing discoloration should review the "Hydrant Flushing Notice" linked under Latest Updates (on the left side of the main web page).

Town Council approves FY2008 Budget

June 21, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council of the Town of Centreville unanimously approved Ordinance 10-2007 enacting the FY 2008 Budget and establishing a real property tax rate of $0.43 per $100 assessed value.  The ordinance reduced the real property tax rate by $0.04 or 8.5% from last year's rate of $0.47.  Copies of the approved budget are available in the foyer at Town Hall and in the future will be linked from the web site.  Enjoy the first day of summer! 

Free Arbor Day trees at Town Hall

April 27, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Town offered free trees at Town Hall in celebration of Arbor Day.  These 1-2 foot seedling trees were provided in partnership with the Queen Anne's and Kent County Commissioners and Forestry Boards, and the Maryland Forest Service.  Planting trees helps green & beautify our community and restore the Corsica River Watershed.

Dawkins honored for service to Town

April 22, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  Joan Dawkins was honored today by the Town Council and the Park Advisory Board for her 22 years of dedicated service to the Town as a member of the Park Advisory Board.  During the Earth Day celebration, the Town Council and Park Advisory Board planted a redbud tree in appreciation of her service.

April 22, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Town celebrated Earth Day at Mill Stream Park in Centreville from 1-4PM on April 22.  Co-sponsored by the Corsica River Conservancy and with a musical sponsorship from McCrone, Inc., the Town Council, staff, and citizens of all ages celebrated a beautiful day with music, games and activities including a "Free Tree" giveaway in support of the Corsica River Watershed Initiative, a scavenger hunt, birdfeeder manufacturing, and more.

Household Hazardous Waste disposal day on April 21

Council Reorganizational Meeting

April 12, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council accepted the report of the Board of Supervisors of Elections.  Council Member Frank C. Ogens took office.  Norman P. Pinder, Jr. was elected President of the Town Council.  Mary L. Roby was elected Vice President of the Town Council.

President Pinder then appointed Council Vice President Roby as liaison to the Planning Commission, and Council Member Ogens as liaison to the Park Advisory Board.  The Town Council reappointed Steve Kehoe (Town Attorney) and Lori Peddicord (Finance Officer) for the coming year.

Former Council Member Mary McCarthy was thanked for her service to the Town and presented with several gifts.

Town Election Results

The Board of Elections Supervisors of the Town of Centreville has provisionally certified the results of the election held on April 2, 2007 at the Goodwill Fire Department, 212 Broadway, Centreville, Maryland.  The preliminary results are listed below. 

The winner of the election will serve on the Town Council for a term of three years.  The vote counts are as follows:

Frank Charles Ogens     259 votes
Luke L. Phipps              223 votes

There were 462 votes cast in person (two were void), and 23 absentee ballots submitted (one was not on the registration list provided by QAC Board of Elections).  Please email or call Town Hall if you have questions.

Snow

January 22, 2007.  Centreville, MD.  Last night the Town of Centreville hosted the first snow of the new year.   Public Works and Police Department staff worked last evening to salt and plow, and assured that by this morning the roads were clear for commuting traffic.
