Below are updates that appeared on the Town's home page during 2008.  They appear in reverse chronological order.

Interim Police Chief Appointed

December 19, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council of Centreville has appointed Maryland State Police (MSP) Lt. Krah Plunkert as Interim Police Chief, accepting an offer by the MSP to provide assistance while the search for a new Chief of Police is conducted.  Chief Dino Pignataro and Lt. Gene Teat will assist with transitional issues pending Lt. Plunkert's starting work with the Town on January 5.

Hearing on Centreville Community Plan - November 18, 2008

The Town Council of Centreville and the Queen Anne's County Commissioners will hold a joint hearing on November 18, 2008 at 6:30PM to receive public comment on the Draft Centreville Community Plan.  The hearing will be held at the Liberty Building, located on North Liberty Street at Broadway in Centreville.  The Draft Plan, recommended for adoption by the Centreville Planning and Zoning Commission and the Queen Anne's County Planning Commission, can be accessed by clicking the here

2008 CENTREVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE: "Home for Christmas"

Join the Town of Centreville, the American Legion Post 18, the Centreville Lions Club and the Centreville Rotary, as they produce for the enjoyment of all, the 2008 Centreville Christmas Parade " Home for Christmas." This year, SEVEN bands, 77 entries, Santa and four elves, tons of candy and fun for everyone!!

Parade starts at 6:30 p.m., at QA's County High School, follows Kidwell Avenue, onto Commerce Street, heads North to Broadway, and disbands at the Board of Education. The Reviewing Stand will be in front of the Court House, with celebrity Judges Lynn Knight, representing the Rotary, Bernard Dadds of the American Legion, and Dan Tabler for the Lions. Trophies will be awarded in January (2009) at a Council meeting, and will be given for Best Appearing Theme (Places 1, 2, and 3), and Most Original (Places 1, 2,and 3), and a Grand Prize. Announcer Paul Gunther will provide a background on each parade entry as it passes.

The Town of Centreville recognizes and thanks the Parade Committee for an outstanding job and lots of hard work: Martin Gahley, Chair; Ed Smith; Jeff Sanger; Mike Olson; Mary Margaret Goodwin; and Norman Pinder. The Parade Committee also thanks Sage Thomas, Jim Rowe, and Sharon Cook, for their generous assistance, and acknowledges all the local businesses which have decorated windows and store fronts in anticipation of this event.

Hydrant Flushing, October 22

October, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town of Centreville will continue its water quality initiative by flushing hydrants on Wednesday, October 22, 2008.  Customers may observe discoloration in the tap water during these activities and should flush discolored water from their pipes.  For more information, see the Water page under Departments.  

Cemetery Cleanup Day - Oct. 18

Please join the Town of Centreville Cemetery Advisory Committee members beginning at 9AM on Saturday, October 18, 2008, for this cleanup of the Chesterfield Cemetery, located at 406 South Liberty Street in Centreville.  Refreshments will be provided.

Public Safety Awareness Day

September 11, 2008. Centreville, MD.   The Town of Centreville Police Department  and Goodwill Volunteer Fire Department will host the Second Annual Public Safety Awareness Day, a fun-filled Family Event!  Join us on Saturday, September 13, 2008, from Noon to 4:00 p.m., in the rear parking lot of the firehouse at 212 Broadway.  This event will feature:  food, giveaways, crime prevention information, and safety demonstrations. Town FY 2009 Budget Approved

June 20, 2008. Centreville, MD.   The Town Council of the Town of Centreville approved the FY 2009 budget, setting the real property tax rate at $0.395 per $100 assessed value.  This represents an 8% cut in the tax rate over last fiscal year, and a cumulative three year reduction in the tax rate of 18%.

Planning Commission Appointments

August 21, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  At their regular meeting on August 21, 2008, The Town Council of Centreville appointed Lawrence James Cooke, Jr., and Norma L. Cousey, to fill the two vacant positions on the Town Planning Commission.  The Planning Commission meets one or two Wednesday evenings each month at the Queen Anne's Health Department Building, 204 N Commerce Street. The public is welcome. 

Town FY 2009 Budget Update

June 19, 2008. Centreville, MD.   The Council had amended the proposed FY 2009 budget on the 17th of June, providing a net reduction of expenditures and borrowing in the amount of $182,520.  Details of the changes are summarized here and available at Town Hall.  The Council made further reductions in expenditures at a worksession at 5PM on June 19, 2009 at the Goodwill Fire Company.  Second reading and consideration of the FY 2009 Budget is presently scheduled for the 7PM Council meeting on June 19.  Click here to view the Proposed FY 2009 Budget (be patient as the pdf file is 1MB).  Copies of the Proposed Budget and the changes made thus far are also available at Town Hall.

Town Budget Process for FY 2009

May 29, 2008. Centreville, MD.   The Town Council of the Town of Centreville today received the proposed FY 2009 Budget prepared by the staff, which proposed retaining the tax rate of $0.43 per $100 assessed value set by the Council last year. 

The Council is scheduled to have a first reading of the FY 2009 Budget Ordinance at its 7PM meeting on June 5, 2008, following the Constant Yield Tax Rate and the Town Budget Hearings beginning at 6:30PM.  On June 19, 2008, the Town Council is scheduled for second reading and consideration of the FY 2009 Budget.  There will also likely be discussion of the FY 2009 Budget at one or more worksessions, which the Council may schedule to inform the budget approval process.  Check this page or on the calendar for the worksession schedule.  Click here to view the Proposed FY 2009 Budget (be patient as the pdf file is 1MB).  Copies of the Proposed Budget are also available at Town Hall.

Council Reorganizational Meeting

April 17, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council accepted the report of the Board of Supervisors of Elections.  Council Member Norman P. Pinder, Jr. was seated for a third three year term. Council Member Frank C. Ogens was elected President of the Town Council.  Mary L. Roby was elected Vice President of the Town Council.

President Ogens then re-appointed Council Vice President Roby as liaison to the Planning Commission, and himself as liaison to the Park Advisory Board.  The Town Council reappointed Steve Kehoe (Town Attorney) and Lori Peddicord (Finance Officer) for the coming year.

 Election Update 

April 7, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  Norman P. Pinder, Jr. was elected to a third three year term today, pending formal certification of the election results by the Board of Supervisors of Elections. 

Board and Commission Vacancies

February, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town Council of Centreville is accepting applications or expressions of interest for service on several of its Boards and Commissions.  There are a number of vacancies anticipated upon the expiration of terms in April, 2008.  For a complete list click on "Who's Who" then "Boards and Commissions" above.  For information on how to apply to be considered for appointment by the Town Council, please email or call Town Hall. 

Town Election 

March 12, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town election for one Town Council Member is scheduled for April 7, 2008 and will be held at Goodwill Fire Company between the hours of 3PM and 7PM.  Norman P. Water System Testing 

April 11, 2008.  Centreville, MD.  The Town of Centreville will be conducting Water System tests beginning at approximately 2PM on April 11, 2008.  Customers may notice discoloration of tap water during this testing.  Town and contract staff will be flushing lines, if needed, as the testing occurs.

Sewer Line Upgrade in Progress

February, 2008.  The Town of Centreville has completed sanitary sewer line upgrades on Homewood Avenue, Draper Lane, and Chesterfield Avenue during February and March, 2008.  We apologize for the inconvenience during this work to enhance the environment and upgrade the Town's infrastructure to better serve you.  See more about the overall project to upgrade Chesterfield Avenue, Homewood Avenue, Draper Lane, and part of Water Street on the Streets Department Page.

Council Meeting at Symphony Village

February 21, 2008.  The Town Council met on February 21, 2008 at the Symphony Village Clubhouse, presenting a convenient opportunity for residents in the southern part of Town to see their local government up close.  The Town appreciates the hospitality of the residents and of Caruso Homes, which sponsored a reception after the meeting.
