Beginning July 2, 2026, the Town of Centreville will be using a new trash contractor, Bigg Tyme Trash. Recycle will no longer be collected after the June 24th collection day.  Additional recycling containers are now located behind Goodwill Fire Company on Powell Street.

PLEASE NOTE: When taking recycle to this location, use the Powell Street entrance.  Entry through the Goodwill Fire Company entrance is not permitted.

For additional information, please see the FAQs below:

  • Residents can keep them and continue to use them, or they can contact Town Hall if they no longer wish to have them, and the Town will pick them up, after July 1st.
  • There will be a form available for residents who wish to return their recycling containers to go on-line and complete or they can call Town Hall.

  • The drop-off site that will be located by the water tower behind Goodwill Fire Company on Powell Street and will be open 24/7 for drop-off.

The recycling containers will be separated for certain items such as, cardboard, glass, cans, etc. therefore, recyclables must be separated at the recycle site into the correct containers.

There is no limitation on how much can be dropped off at one time however, if the recycle bins are full, leaving items outside of the bins is prohibited.

Placing recyclables in trash bags or any other type of bags, is prohibited.  They must be separated and placed in the correct bins.

  • Residents will see an increase in their utility bills for trash and yard waste.  Residents are currently paying $54.58 for trash, recycle, and yard waste.  The new rate, effective July 1 will be $59.84 for trash and yard waste.
  • The Town’s current trash/recycle contract with Chesapeake Waste ends June 30th therefore, on March 23, 2026, the Town sent out an Invitation to Bid for a new trash contract and a new recycle contract.  Many trash companies no longer provide recycling services which is why they were bid separately.
  • For trash services, the Town received 6 bids and Bigg Tyme Trash was selected as the lowest bidder.
  • For recycling services, the Town received 3 bids.  At the May 7th meeting, Town Council chose not to proceed with curbside recycling because it would have increased the quarterly cost by an additional $35.22 (for a total of $92.71).
  • If there are questions related to the upcoming trash and recycling services, they can contact Kip Matthews, Director of Public Works, at cmatthews [at] townofcentreville.org (cmatthews[at]townofcentreville[dot]org) or Carolyn Brinkley, Town Manager, at cbrinkley [at] townofcentreville.org (cbrinkley[at]townofcentreville[dot]org).
  • If you would like to contact Town Hall to put your name on the list for pick up of the blue recycle bin, call 410-758-1180.
  • Friends, neighbors, relatives but other than that, the Town is not aware of any resources that would be able to help with the transport of recyclables.
  • There will not be any additional cost increases.  The trash contractor's fee is based on the Town not providing recycling services.
  • The Town Council discussed this at the May 7th meeting and the link to the video of the meeting can be found by following this link: May 7th Town Council Meeting
