Notice of Weed Spraying

Monday, August 8, 2022 - 6:00am to Friday, September 2, 2022 - 9:00pm

Town of Centreville will begin contracted street spraying addressing overgrown grass, weeds and seedling trees starting the second week of August 2022.  Downtown business district work timing will be performed during hours of least public interaction and include roadway pavement, curb lines, sidewalks and parking lots.  Neighborhood residential streets will have pavement and curb lines treated where necessary. Weed spraying is imperative to lengthen the lifespan of costly roadway and hard surface infrastructure, ensure positive storm water drainage, present a tidy appearance attracting business and tourism as well as maintain neighborhood property values.

Town of Centreville weed spraying follows a public and Bay-centric Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Plan:

  • establishing a weed threshold by spraying only once per year;
  • utilizing the least quantity and lowest toxicity conventional and/or organic herbicide to get the job done;
  • ensuring herbicides used for annual street spraying are the same minimum toxicity, aquatic-registered and approved products that are being used for environmentally-sensitive Corsica River wetland invasive phragmites eradication;
  • where ALL work is performed by certified, licensed, Ag degreed, business insured and career-experienced contracted Weed Control Specialist and Professional Horticulturist;
  • improving blanket outreach and notification requirements from local Town Hall

Maryland Department of Agriculture’s Statewide Pesticide Sensitive Notification Program. Individuals with specific health issues or chemical sensitivities should investigate signing up for this Program to receive personal notification from ALL licensed commercial landscape chemical applicators whom receive the annual Subscriber List as condition of professional licensing.
